We are all about Connection! As a group private practice, Counseling Connect provides mental health and wellness services for individuals, couples, and groups. We work with clients of all ages and backgrounds. We strive to match clients with a therapist who best fits their needs and we build relationships to help people realize positive change.
We provide in-person counseling in Christiansburg, VA. Telehealth is available for Virginia residents, including live video sessions and text-based therapy via secure messaging. Service contracts are available for individuals or employers to purchase therapy sessions in bulk.
Counseling Connect is proud to be the mental health provider for the Montgomery County Fire-EMS department. Through the program Helping Our Helpers, we offer professional counseling and wellness services for first responders. We have developed an integrated healthcare model, which goes beyond the limitations of traditional employee-assistance plans, to ensure that our clients and their immediate family members have access to high quality, consistent, and trauma-informed treatment and prevention. For full details, check out our blog!
Counseling Connect offers group counseling for those who experience suicidal ideation or self-harm through our program called We Are Hope. Our group aims to bring everything that makes life worth living into the therapeutic process. We focus on fostering self-compassion, resisting suicidal and self-harming behaviors, and changing self-defeating thought patterns. We will achieve these goals through the use of the Integrative Psychodynamic Approach to Suicide Prevention, as well as interventions and techniques from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. We provide a safe, empathetic, and empowering environment to instill hope and overcome the darkness.
If you or anyone you know would like to participate in this group, please contact Lindsay Caldwell, Resident in Counseling at (540) 391-0251 or lindsay@counseling-connect.com.
If you are having a mental health crisis, please call 988.
Our counselors work from a wellness perspective, a holistic, strength-based, and client-centered approach. We give you a safe space to process your thoughts and feelings, and help you gain insight to empower you to make positive changes in your life. We collaborate with you on a customized treatment plan and support you in reaching your full potential. We can help you heal from your pain, achieve your personal goals, and become the person you want to be.
Our counselors are committed to advocating for positive social change and diversity inclusion. To further this goal, we are working on several community service projects, including a suicide prevention group, called We Are Hope and an event to promote LGBTQ pride, in addition to the Helping Our Helpers program. We also offer seminars to businesses that want to improve the well-being of their employees.
Our practice is founded on a mentorship model. It's designed to nurture the professional development of pre-licensed clinicians and give them opportunities for growth before and after they become independently licensed. Clinical supervision is provided by Rae Burgess, Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Certified Supervisor.
We are always open to feedback from our community.

Here's what a couple of our former clients said about their experience at Counseling Connect:
"Counseling has been most helpful. I can feel a significant improvement in my mood most days and I feel I have better tools to manage my anxiety and depression. My confidence has increased and I finally feel myself healing from long festering issues of abandonment and inferiority. I’m very glad I gave counseling a try! I would be open to trying it again."
"I have been in and out of counseling for about fourteen years. Rae is the first professional to listen to my goals, my experiences, and my pain to create a plan of mindfulness, deep conversations, as well as fun pet story sharing. I am so thankful to be in touch with such a caring person. 10/10 would recommend."
